What can you expect from an Age of Mythology map? I'll talk about what that means for fans who want to try their hands at making their own random map types down below, but first, here's a quick sketch of some of Age of Mythology's maps. Designing and testing new random maps is just about my favorite part of this job, and I literally cannot wait to see what crazy new configurations fans come up with after the game is released. Although there was some initial skepticism on the fan forums, including an urban legend that it was impossible to do random maps in a 3D engine for some reason, I am happy to report that the Age of Mythology random map scripter blows away all previous incarnations of this feature. Random Maps have always been one of the most important and popular features of the Age of Empires series, so it was a no-brainer that we would include them in Age of Mythology.
